UK Information Sessions - mid 2010

Representatives from IPN and Gemini Medical Services, will visit the UK in mid 2010. They will travel around the UK visiting interested GP candidates and would welcome the opportunity to meet privately with you and your family for a discussion about working and living in Australia.

These meetings are free and informal – to explore topics including:

Visa process for UK GPs wishing to visit Australia

GP working conditions - what to expect on a day-to-day basis
Information regarding schooling, property market and activities
Australian culture and lifestyle

Check your eligibility

Generally, a British or Irish GPs will find the application process to Australia relatively easy, if your secondary schooling was completed in English and if you have the qualification MRCGP / JCPTGP / ICGP or equivalent. This is because you may receive exemptions for sitting examinations for proficency in both English language (IELTS Exam) and medical understanding (AMC Exam).

Typically, a British or Irish trained GP wishing to work in Australia needs to meet these key requirements:

Essential

Recognised vocational training in general practice OR minimum 5 years general practice experience.
Eligibility to obtain FRACGP status or satisfy Australian Medical Council (AMC) pathway requirements.

Preferred

MRCGP / JCPTGP / ICGP or equivalent
Experience in key clinical areas:
- Paediatrics
- Obstetrics/Gynaecology
- Minor procedures
- Community/rural practice experience
A sense of adventure
