Skin Cancer Check
Sound Telegraph: 24th October, 2006
State-of-the-art skin scanning equipment at Gemini Medical
At the Gemini Medical Centre in Rockingham patients are able to utilise the latest in digital scanning technology when they visit for a skin cancer check. Gemini is pleased to announce that all its skin screen consultations and procedures are now bulk-billed.
Dr Fraser Barrie at Gemini uses a computer-assisted scanning tool, SolarScan, to capture, analyse and store images of skin lesions for accurate diagnosis of melanomas and other skin cancers.
Australians have the highest rate of skin cancer in the world with over 382,000 people being treated for skin cancer each year. There are two types of skin cancer; melanoma and non-melanoma. More than 99% of people with non-melanoma skin cancer and 95% of people with melanoma skin cancer are cured and this is usually thanks to early detection.
Early and accurate identification of melanoma saves lives and with summer fast approaching it’s important for people to take steps in preventing skin cancer. One of the best ways to do this is by having a skin cancer screen – so book your skin check today!
