How long will my assessment take?

The length of time your medical assessment will take varies on how involved your appointment is.

It is advisable to set aside two hours for your pre placement medical assessment appointment. This time frame generally allows for the completion of paperwork, physical assessment with the doctor, and time with a nurse if you need to complete audio testing, lung function testing and a drug and alcohol screen.

Extra services such as extensive blood work, a chest x-ray, physiotherapy or fitness testing may require you to set aside additional time.

There are a few things you can do to help prevent delays, which include:

  • Arrive at your appointment 15 minutes early so you have sufficient time to complete necessary paperwork.
  • Make sure you bring a form of Photo Identification with you (drivers license, passport etc).
  • If you wear visual aids, please remember to bring them with you.
  • Bring any hearing aids that you may require with you.
  • If you have an appointment for a physiotherapy assessment or a fitness test, you will need to wear comfortable clothing and enclosed footwear that is suitable for movement.
  • Double check your appointment details - for example, do you have more than one appointment? Do you have to travel to two different clinics? Will you need to pack a snack, or will you have time to stop for food if you have several appointments throughout the day?

Ensuring your assessment appointments are attended and completed helps us to collate your results and return them to your prospective employer as quickly as possible.
