Spirometry (Lung function testing)
A spirometry assessment gives an estimate of a candidate's lung function and capacity.
Candidates blow into a mouthpiece, and a graph-like reading with corresponding
values is produced. A reading can be done both pre and post ventolin if a candidate is asthmatic.
A spirometry is also a test which may determine if respiratory issues (such as asthma) or lifestyle factors (such as smoking) need to be addressed.
Spirometry assessments are performed by a qualified technician in accordance with Australian / New Zealand Standards for Occupational Health & Safety Systems (AS/NZS 4801:2001).
A spirometry test is a component of the Mines Health Surveillance.
