Mine Workers Health Surveillance (MWHS)
(Also known as the Mines Health Surveillance & MWHS)
All Western Australian mine sites fall under the regulation of the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DoMP).
Under the regulation of this government body, it is a requirement that all employees on mine sites in Western Australia complete health surveillance testing after a period of employment.
Mine Workers Health Surveillance (MWHS):
In circumstances involving underground mining, a chest x-ray can also be required.
All of these assessments must be completed by a registered officer.
As with all Compliant audiograms, a Form 18 must be provided by the employer before the assessment. The test results will be registered with DoMP and WorkCover by Gemini Medical.
Employers please be aware: under the legislation that governs Mine Workers Health Surveillance (MWHS), only an employed person can undergo this assessment, and the employer must cover all costs associated with it.
Questions relating to Mine Workers Health Surveillance (MWHS) legislation can be directed to DoMP Resources and Safety on (08) 9358 8002
