Drug & Alcohol Screening
A variety of drug and alcohol screening options can be provided by Gemini Medical to suit your company policy and requirements.
Instant Urine Screening
As the name suggests, this litmus-like test gives an instant result for a wide variety of drug groups. It has the convenience of being performed at the clinic the candidate has attended, however this test does not meet Australian/New Zealand standards (with regards to collection of sample, sighting identification and other factors), and the results are inconclusive.
Laboratory Standard Drug and Alcohol Immunoassay
This test screens for specific classes of drugs of abuse. In order to complete this test, a candidate provides a urine sample which is collected and tested in accordance of the Australian/New Zealand Standards. These standards are recommended practice for the collection, detection, and quantification of drugs of abuse in urine.
The A/NZ standards ensure quality and reliability of screening procedures, and were revised in 2001. The standards include such procedures as sighting photo identification, candidate providing recent medication history, and the laboratory checking how dilute the sample is (a dilute sample may indicate excessive fluid intake in order to mask a true result).
This drug and alcohol screen tests for five different classes of drugs of abuse:Drug Class

If a candidate does return a test with a 'positive' result for a class of drugs of abuse, it is strongly recommended further confirmation be completed.
In the instance of a positive drug screen, Gemini Medical recommends a gas-chromatography-mass-spectrum (GCMS) be completed as it explains the exact substance and amount of substance that has caused the positive result.
GCMS confirmation is the only level of assessment that will stand up in a court of law.
