Audio Assessment
Compliant and Non-compliant audiogram
A hearing assessment is an essential part of a pre-employment medical for candidates who may be (or may have previously been) based at noisy locations.
A period of 16 hours quiet time (free from noisy work sites, light plane travel, loud stereo use etc) is recommended to provide an accurate result.
There are different levels of audio testing available;
Non-compliant testing
An employer can request a non-compliant assessment that will provide accurate assessment of hearing (and any hearing loss) to assist in the pre-employment medical.
Compliant testing
This test is relevant to WA legislation only. A compliant assessment is the same assessment as the non-compliant, but the results is officially registered as either a baseline or subsequent reading with WorkCover WA.
Compliant audio testing is required as part of the Mines Health Surveillance.The assessment is performed by a registered audiometric officer to WorkCover standards. After testing, the registration of the baseline reading or subsequent assessment is followed as per employer's instructions.
A Form 18 must be supplied from the employer before a compliant hearing test can be undertaken.If a compliant hearing test is requested at pre-employment, Gemini Medical will also send the prospective employer a letter to complete that states if the candidate has been employed. This letter must be completed and registered within 4 weeks of the audiometric test. This is as a response to requirements within the WorkCover Hearing Loss Guidelines which requires compliant audios to be only registered for persons employed in a noise environment.
