Quit Smoking Program: Workplace
New Course offers hope for smokers wanting to quit
Smokers now have access to a new course which offers support and hope to those who want to quit.
Fresh Start is a comprehensive short course which provides information, resources and support to smokers and has been highly successful in helping WA smokers beat their habit.
The Fresh Start course offered through Gemini Medical covers issues such as nicotine addiction, managing withdrawal symptoms, weight control, stress management, recognising and planning for possible obstacles to quitting, staying stopped and enjoying being a non-smoker.
Jody Smith, Corporate Health Programs Coordinator, has received training from The Cancer Council Western Australia to become a Fresh Start facilitator to enable her to provide the course to the local community.
“Fresh Start is different because it gives people an understanding of why they smoke....
..Armed with this knowledge, smokers can apply the quitting strategies provided in the course to their personal circumstances. The group sessions are also a great incentive and source of support,” Jody said
“While some people are able to quit successfully on their own or with encouragement from family and friends, others find quitting more difficult and can benefit from additional support. Fresh Start helps people stay motivated and on-track,” Jody said.
“We will be offering courses throughout the year to provide the support for people to stick to their 2005 resolution to quit and stay stopped.”
