Living in Apollo Bay

Twelve Apostles
Apollo Bay is a coastal town located 195 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, a scenic 3 hour drive along the Great Ocean Road. This part of the world is regarded by many as ‘Paradise by the Sea‘. The town has a wide, crescent-shaped sandy swimming beach and offers a relaxed lifestyle, with national parks and abundant wildlife in the nearby ranges.
Apollo Bay has a population of approximately 1,200 and offers a range of superb restraurants, cafes, gift shops, art galleries, museums, a fabulous seaside golf course, and a safe swimming beach. The beach is a focus for activity all year round and visitors can enjoy swimming in the clear water, sea kayaking with local seals, indulging in deep-sea fishing, surfing, or horse riding along the beach at sunset.
Fishing is an important local industry and seafood is always on the menu at the local cafés and restaurants.
Great Ocean Road

How to get there: Recognised as one of the world’s most scenic drives, the Great Ocean Road follows the stunning coastline of Victoria’s south-west. Stretching 300 kilometres the road winds along cliff tops, up to breathtaking headlands, down onto the edge of beaches, across river estuaries and through lush rainforests offering panoramic views at every turn.
Outside Apollo Bay the road temporarily leaves the coast to wind through the centre of the Great Otway National Park with its beautiful untouched rainforests, before returning to hug the coast and run along the cliff top for the entire length of the Port Campbell National Park. This is the most famous section of the Great Ocean Road featuring an amazing collection of rock formations known as the Twelve Apostles which have been carved out of the headland by the fierce waves of the southern ocean.

Some of the most rugged and inaccessible coastline in Victoria lies in the 12,876 hectare park, an invitation to the adventurous to explore this 60-kilometre stretch from Apollo Bay to Princetown, reached via the Great Ocean Road. Great Otway National Park, and in particular around Aire River Camp Ground, is a very reliable location for koala spotting as many koalas have made the area their home. |
