UK Information Sessions - November 2009

Dr Tim Haggett, a British GP who made the move to Australia, will visit the UK in November 2009. Dr Haggett will travel around the UK visiting interested GP candidates and welcomes the opportunity to meet privately with you and your family for a discussion about working and living in Australia.

Vicky Moriarty, Gemini Medical HR Manager, also emigrated from the UK to Australia 3 years ago. Vicky will be travelling to various locations in the UK and Ireland. Check your eligibility

Generally, British and Irish GPs will find the application process to Australia relatively easy, if your secondary schooling was completed in English and if you have the qualification MRCGP / JCPTGP / ICGP or equivalent. This is because you may receive exemptions for sitting examinations for proficency in both English language (IELTS Exam) and medical understanding (AMC Exam).

Typically, a British or Irish trained GP wishing to work in Australia needs to meet these key requirements:

Essential

Recognised vocational training in general practice OR minimum 5 years general practice experience.
Eligibility to obtain FRACGP status or satisfy Australian Medical Council (AMC) pathway requirements.

Preferred

MRCGP / JCPTGP / ICGP or equivalent
Experience in key clinical areas:
- Paediatrics
- Obstetrics/Gynaecology
- Minor procedures
- Community/rural practice experience
A sense of adventure
